About FIRST Lego League (FLL)

The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.

Elementary and middle-school students get to:

checkbox red  Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
checkbox red  Apply real-world math and science concepts
checkbox red  Research challenges facing today’s scientists
checkbox red  Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
checkbox red  Participate in tournaments and celebrations

What FLL teams accomplish is nothing short of amazing. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And the skills they learn will last a lifetime(

FLL TableScrimmage

Nov. 4th, 2009 marked the first annual Kokomo FLL Scrimmage hosted by the TechnoKats.  The scrimmage allowed FLL teams to practice robot performance, the research presentation, the teamwork judging, and the technical presentation in a constructive environment.  TechnoKats team members provided on-the-spot feedback and mentoring.  Four Indiana teams attended, with one team sending members to observe.

The TechnoKats sponsored the creation of one FLL team in 2009.  The team funded the NXT robot kit and constructed the FLL table on the right.

Multiple past and present students spend time mentoring local FLL teams. Many FLL students go on to become TechnoKats members once in high school.
